Slow Internet Connection

I am using a Linksys Broadband wireless router connected to a WIndows Me system. My cable modem is conencted to the router (Cox communictaions is my ISP provider). My remote computer, a Dell XPS Gen 4 (connected with a Linksys USB adaptor) shows connected but the internet speeds are extremely slow. Downloads are around 23kbps! Sometimes they are faster up to 153kbps. I changed channel from 6 to 1. Still slow. Any ideas?

I run McAfee Spyware and have McAfee antivirus installed.

can you try transfering a file between the two computers to confirm that it is your wireless connection that is the problem -- and not an internet problem?

Yeah, I'm positive it's the wireless. No problem transferring files between the two computers. I ran speed tests on my wireless computers and my wired computer and the wireless were about 60% slower.

So it may just be soemthing one has to put up with when you use wireless?!
