Slow Internet connection
I just received my Inspirion 1525 laptop yesterday. The connection that I get to the Internet is arount 100Kbps when I run a speed test. I know it is not my Internet connect because I have another laptop that when I run the speed test gets 1.5Mbsp. Anyone have any suggestion as to why this is happening or how to improve performance. The only reason we bought this laptop was to have 2 laptops for my kids to access school work via the Internet and the slow Internet speed make this new laptop seem worthless

Which version of Windows is running on the new laptop? What kind of internet service do you have (cable/dsl/dialup)? If cable or dsl, are you connecting directly to a cable/dsl modem or through a router? If through a router, is the laptop connecting by wired ethernet or wireless?

As a troubleshooting step, if you connect the new laptop directly to the router by an ethernet cable, is it still slow?

Please note that I am trying to help you troubleshoot this problem by eliminating possible causes f(the standard methord of troubleshootin). There is no magic solution. Let's troubleshoot the ethernet connection first so that we can determine if the problem is a general Windows problem or is restricted to wireless.
With the ethernet cable plugged in from the new computer to the router, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.
