Slow Internet With Broadband

Well lately, my internet has been ever so slow, for around 2 or 3 months. I have no idea why this is. I have deleted alot of the unneccesary programs that I used to have on my computer but it still hasn't helped. I really do not know what to do. I don't know whether it's a problem with files on computer.

Could anyone help please?

Thank you

Internet access can be slow for a variety of reasons:

1. Your DSL connection (if you have DSL) is not working properly. You can usually check the statistics of your connection by browsing your modem. Do you have DSL or cable? You can test your connection speed here:

2. You are trying to access sites that are slow. These Dell forums are often very slow even when other sites are fast. Did you try other sites?

3. There is something wrong with your machine, but this is not normally the problem.

4. Sometimes just resetting (power off and on if there is no other way to reset) the modem will make a poor connection start working again.

Thank you. I will look into the points that you made later on. But, the sites that I visit are ordinary sites that I was on last year when I got my computer, and they worked fine at ordinary speed. It's just recently that it has slowed down.

Also, I find that the internet is faster in the morning for some reason.

You still didn't say what kind of connection you have. Some people have found that DSL connections can be affected by fluorescent lighting and their speed drops when the street lights come on or when they turn on their internal lighting.

It is also common for sites to be slower in the evening when people come home and access them. The more people using them, the slower they appear. Cable connections might be even more susceptible to increased usage in the same apartment or neighborhood because they share common bandwidth resources.

If this is cable then you can probably blame this on the kids in the neighborhood as you all are pulling from the same node.  However, I would do a thorough scan for spyware especially a rogue mail server program.

Well it actually turns out that there was a problem in the area because we contacted out ISP. But they've fixed it now, but thank you for your help.
