Are you sure your system is free of spyware?? McAfee does not do a very good job of detecting and removing spyware, the most common cause of internet connection and browsing problems. In fact there is no single commercial product available to catches all spyware, so you need to run at least two antispyware programs.
Another thing to check is to see if your settinigs are optiimal. Go to the following site and run the Tweak test. Follow the instructions and take whatever recommendations are offered.
try doing a system restore. Restore your system to a date before you experienced this problem. If that does not work- go to internet options under advance and restore advanced settings. these settings inadvertently change from time to time.
Hey Folks, Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I have two spyware programs, McAfee and Spyware doctor, and they have not fixed the problem. The tweak test didn't have any suggestions, and I tried restoring my advanced internet options, all to no avail. Some additional symptoms of my problem can be described as following: my internet connection icon in the system tray will show as connected, but programs like pokerstars will frequently lose the connection. I downloaded Dell Network Assistant, and it says that my internet connection is down, even though I can access the internet, albeit slowly. When I analyze my network with the Dell Network Assisstant, it finds no problems, although it still says "disconnected" next to network connection on the main program screen. Any further suggestions? Thanks a lot.
Download, install, update, and run the free versions of
Ad-Aware and
Spybot and let these programs remove all of the garbage that they find.
If these programs don't solve the problem, go
Here and follow the directions to download and run the analysis tool called HijackThis. Generate a log file, then open it and copy and paste the text of the log file in a message in the
HijackThis forum where a HijackThis expert can offer advice on how to fix the problem.
You may have to uninstall one of your anti-spyware programs. With two anti-spyware programs running or two anti-virus software running, they can conflict with one another and slow up your computers progress. try this, if it doesn't work you can always reinstall your anti-spyware or anti-virus software. also try resetting your modem.
I too have been experiencing problems with Bell and Sympatico's web pages. I don't get it. I have been able to access those pages without problems a few times but most of the time, either I just won't connect or I will after 10 minutes. Sympatico suggested that I try using another Web browser so I installed Mozilla. Nothing changed. How come I can connect so easily to Videotron and Dell's sites but not to Sympatico's? Would the problem come from Bell? Are they becoming victims of their beavers' success? My promotion ends in a month and I guess I will not sign for a year with Sympatico since it won't be possible for me to get any support on the Net. How ironic!
Sorry but I forgot to mention that I have been able to connect to Sympatico's sites without any problems but I had to deactivate the protected mode in Internet Explorer and the anti-phishing in McAfee.
Could there be some kind of incompatibility between Vista, McAfee, Explorer and Sympatico's security systems?
