I get a flashlight for about two minutes. The file contains 10,000 resumes as we are executive recruiters. The file opened instantaneously when we had a pentium2 and runnung windows 98. My other computers are pentium 4"s with XP also and have no problem opening the file instantaneously . Thanks for answering me The people at Dell in the philapines have been most uncooperative and they try to get me to buy software support but the machines are only two weeks old
What programs are running in the background? For example to you have one of the security suites from Norton or McAfee running? If so, try disabling these and see if the problem goes away. Basic troubleshooting steps involve eliminating anything that is different between your machines to see if you can isolate the problem.

Exactly what happens when you try to open a large file? How big is the file?
