Studio XPS 13 wifi connectivity issues

I have a Studio XPS 13 and my wifi has been having connection issues. For some reason at random times, my internet will hang and then I will get an error saying that  the connection has timed out or server not found and then the little wifi icon in the bottom right of the screen only shows a local connection instead of a local and internet connection. This happens for a moment, (usually long enough to disturb my school assignments that im submitting!) at random times when im trying to load a page or even while just sitting idle, and then i refresh and the connection is back. I have some photos so people can see what im talking about. I have tried reinstalling my drivers, taking the laptop to bestbuy to get looked at and they tell me its fine, but i just know they arent recreating the problem so they cant fix what they dont see so thats why Im turning to this forum. Please if anyone has had this issue or knows how to help, please get back with me, this issue is killing me!

I'm having similar issues but I'm afraid I have no answers for you. What I've found is that the XPS 13 Ultrabook gets about 1/3 to 1/4 the wi-fi reception my Fujitsu Lifebook T4200 gets. This means it often drops out or is simply slow. I suspect this is due to the aluminium cover over the monitor where wi-fi aerials are usualy located. The Asus Transformer Prime tablet has suffered from similar issues (that also affects the GPS receiver in that unit). It seems the Dell development engineers don't know much about basic physics.

If there is no resolution to this issue soon, I'm afraid this XPS 13 will be reurned and my money refunded.

StainlessBottle,

You said...

bump

Why bump? Maybe if you explain your problem in a little better detail.I have similar problems is not a real good description. I have a similar computer doesn't tell anything.

Hit the Windows Key and the R keys at the same time. Type

systeminfo.txt

REMOVE THE PRODUCT ID and post the rest of the information back here. (Preferred)

or an ipconfig /all log and maybe it will reveal something.

I didn't install the OS. Dell did and delivered it as is. One would hope they followed their own advice! Do you know of any way I could check or how to redo the installation of drivers to ensure it is done in the correct order?

StainlessBottle,

When you installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit a month ago, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Seems we can't edit our own post here.

I've just noticed that the page you provided a link to (thanks for your help by the way) is dated 2006. For instance, it looks like the Notebook System Software (NSS) no longer exists. So I wonder how important the order of driver installation really is with Windows 7, etc. now in 2012.

StainlessBottle,

This system does not have that.

I would try Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings

Sounds like something may not have installed properly. If that doesn't work, then the system is under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support.

I've got my xps 13 two weeks ago and have the same problem with internet connection. Very disapointed this expensive laptop couldn't handle a basic essential wifi function !!! I'll get usb adapter to work around this problem

My coworker opened the laptop and found a loose cable next to the wifi card !!!. After he plugged it back in, it's been working fine since then...
