yes tcp/ip is installed and resetting the stack didn't help

If you go into Network Properties, right click on youre wireless connection and select Properties, is the TCP/IP (Internet Protocol) installed for the network card?  Have you tried resetting the TCP/IP stack using the procedure described at:

Were both wireless cards from the same manufacturer?  Have you tried finding updated drivers for the wireless card?  This sounds like an IRQ conflict which should not occur on modern computer equipment if the devices and their drivers are compliant with the PCI specification.  Have you tried swapping PCI cards around the PCI slots to see if that resolves the issue?

no the cards were from different manufacturers. they are both 802.11g cards.  I have tried different pci slots as well.
