My guess would be that they copy the program files, so they can see what programs you have on your computer and see if theye are any there that might have conflicts with the issue you're contacting them about.
Program Files folder contains mostly the program itself. Personal information is NOT stored(or is not supposed to be stored) in the programs files. If mostly the items the program need to run properly and setup and un-installers.
