Terminally Slow Internet Access

Latitude D630 - Core 2 Duo T7500  2.2GHz - 2MB RAM - 32 bit OS - Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

Running Vista and Norton 360

Internet access and web page searches take minutes to access page or site. An example is this Dell Forum site. Once I enter my user name and password, it took > 1 minute to connect to forum. When I selected New Message, it took 2 minutes, timed out, hit refresh, then another 40 seconds to get to this page.

It does not matter where I am connected, home, office, wireless or wired. I have the Latitude D600, running XP, sitting right next to this machine. I run them in parallel and the D600 runs as quickly as one would expect.

I have been through Verizon FIOS, my fiberoptic service provider, MicroSoft Vista help desk, and neither can remedy the situation. Both have suggested going to Dell.

I am looking for any help anyone can offer. Love the machine for everything I do except internet access.

might try this-

1. open internet explorer browser, click on tools-internet options- delete history, cookies, and temporary files.

2.

start> all programs > Accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter > defragment...this will make your hard drive quicker, not necessarily the internet browsing.

3. make sure you have no virus, spyware, that sort of thing.

4. reboot your modem, router.... modem first, router....also, turn computer off before doing this.,,,but since your other laptop works okay, this will probably not help much..but worth a try.

5. restore your operationg system to an earlier date on your d630, or re-install the operationg system to like it came from the factory with the dell recovery partition.

6. any devices around that can cause internet interferance, like 2.4ghz phoes, microwaves

ronss - Thanks for the response. I have had this machime for 6 months and at one time or other have tried every and all of your sgggestions with the exception of #5, restoring the OS. This past Wednesday I did each of the other steps including removing and reinstalling all of my s/w (Office 2007, VPN's etc.). I've never re-installed or reset the OS, but it's worth a try. Will advise. Thanks again.
