Totally Clueless on Network

This may seem like a dumb question but I really have no idea. I just purchased a Inspiron 600m laptop. I want to set up a wirless network. I also purchased a router. I currently have my desktop running from  a Bellsouth DSL box.
1.    Is there any type of hardware I need to put into my desktop or do I just have to hook the router to the DSL for my laptop?
2. Do I need a Ethernet cord for the DSL  to Desktop(it currently is USB)?
Any help would be great!!!!!!!! I really am clueless about this and don't want to have boyfriend drive down to do it!!!! LOL

I am assuming that you purchased a wireless router.  You need to connect your dsl modem to the wireless router's WAN (sometimes called Internet) port by an ethernet cable.  You then need to connect your desktop computer's ethernet port to one of the router's LAN ports.  The 600m will then be able to connect to the internet through the wireless connection.  Of course all of this should be explained in detail in the manual that came with your router.

Told you I am clueless. Just checked and the router I purchased is not wireless.:smileysad:. Can I get Dell to exchange it before it is shipped out. The router order is still 'Pre"? Or should I just order a wireless then send back the other one?

You have 21 days to return it if it has already shipped, but I would advise you to but one out on the economy from Linksys, D-Link, Netgear.
