transflash problem

Dell dimension 4600c, 512 ram, IE 7 beta, 80G. I try to use my flash card reader and keep getting error message: E:/ is not accessible incorrect function. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers several times. I have gone into device manager and uninstalled all USB drivers and reinstalled. Have gone to computer management, disk management and E is not present. I am trying to use a Sandisk 256 card. I have tried everything short of a XP reinstall. Has anyone any idea how I can fix this problem?

Does the flash card work on another computer?  Are the chipset drivers installed on your computer?

Do other USB devices work?  If so, it's not the chipset drivers.  Furthermore, if Windows is assigning a drive letter, then I guess it's likely that the chipset drivers are installed.  When you insert the drive in a USB port, does Windows acknowledge that a new device has been installed?

yes all usb ports work. I have unplugged everything but my keyboard, monitor, and mouse, and I have put the reader into every port. It is recognized as E but is not accessible. Thanks Dale

I'm out of ideas.  But note - this is the networking forum.  Your problem has nothing to do with networking.   Why don't you post on the Dimension - General Hardware forum where there is a lot more traffic and you may find another user who can help with your problem.
