Trouble connecting wirelessly with new E1505...

I got a new E1505 a week ago with the Intel/PROset 3945 wireless card. For the last week I have spent WAY too much time trying to figure out why my brand new laptop won't stay online wirelessly. I have read everything and tried everything mentioned on several other threads to no avail. The device manager shows the card is working properly. I have updated drivers, changed settings in the Linksys router, set the power management so it doesn't turn off the card, and the list goes on. I still cannot get the laptop to stay online wirelessly. If I plug in the ethernet it stays online no problem...but not wireless. When it boots up it picks up the wireless connection but it only lasts at the most 20 minutes...then it kicks off. If you right click on the Intel/Proset icon in the taskbar it shows that wireless is on with a check mark next to it still. Then when you double click the icon to get the box ... it says in the top that wireless is off but the button at the bottom shows it is on. (hopefully that makes sense)

If I restart the computer I start the process over every single time. It will get online wirelessly for several minutes and then kick off. Once it kicks off that's it...restart is the only way to get it back.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is? I'm just at a loss. Do I have a bad (aside from it being an Intel card lol) wireless card right out of the box?

I was hoping someone here might have some ideas before I have to do the dreaded call in.

Thanks in advance,

Mel

Have the same problem with a new D820 Latitude...can connect effortlessly with an Ethernet connection...when wireless can only get to Google home page...not beyond...

This is the IPCONFIG/ALL from when the wireless and wired connections were both on.  Do you need to see it also when it kicks off?  I'm sure it will here soon....

I figured I'd just add what it shows with IPCONFIG/ALL when the wireless kicks off and the wired connection is still attached.  It says:

Windows IP Configuration

An internal error occurred: A device attached to the system is not functioning.

Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.

Additional information: Unknown media status code.

I then went to the device manager and it says that the wireless card is working properly.  I think I am in way over my head here.  This makes no sense to me.

Thanks for your help,  Mel

Yeah I have that set that way already...read that on another thread.  :)

Guess I'll give cablenut a try if that doesn't work I'll have to give Dell a call.

Thanks for your help...it's most appreciated.

When you are looking in device manager, make sure the maximum power is set for the wireless adapter
CLEAR the checkbox 'Allow Windows to power this off'

Feel like trying 'cablenut' software?

this is obviously a huge issue with this card as we had a tech guy here for close to 4 hours today...and installed a new router...that we did not need..just trying to cover all the bases and our wireless connectivity is for squat. Like I said before we hae a Latitude D820 with the Intel 1394 card...brand new...has never worked wirelessly other than for a fleeting minute...All other laptops here work without a hitch and this works fine if it's connected to the Internet and interestingly it did work at a hotel about 2 weeks ago. Since then and everywhere else it does not connect. What is cablenut? Might be worth looking into tho I am pretty close to sending this machine back and going with a different system...we have a service plan and dell techs have been worthless with thsi issue. That's why we paid for our own tech guy to come today ...with no success. He was completely baffled.
Thanks,
kristin

Sorry to hear you're having the same issues.  I was also on the phone with tech support today for hours.  In the end he basicly said I have no idea what the problem is...it must be your router.  The router is brand new and works fine with our wired connections and one other laptop that is wireless.  I have a relative who is a computer tech and he just left...same thing as your tech guy...baffled.  We're considering returning our unit as well.  This is just ridiculous.  I mean come on right out of the box it doesn't work?  It's pathetic.

Sorry wish I was more help but seems we're in the same boat.  Good luck to you.

uninstall and reinstall the driver for the card. if no go, upgrade the driver of your intel wireless card. get driver from www.intel.com. you will find an updated driver there.

already did all that. Last tech I talked to at Dell thought I should disassemble the unit -take off cover, keyboard, battery and a few other pieces to reseat the card. Seems they should have done that before they shipped it. Can't even get a tech here...and have a Dell next day business plan- until I agree to take the whole thing apart over the phone...which I am just not comfortable doing. And of course I can't return it because it's >21 days old (tho I've been calling them since day 1 with this issue).
Thanks,Kristin

I understand being beyond my comfort level. It happened to me with a floppy drive problem in a Small Form Factor Optiplex GX-50.
In this case I think Dell support has lost sight of who is the customer (paying).
I would either tell them you have done what they required or else ask to talk with their supervisor and, if necessary, the supervisor of the supervisor.

You are correct Dell has definately lost sight of who the customer is. I have been a loyal dell consumer for years-this is it for me. After finally talking with another Dell rep she agreed to file a "Refusal to troubleshoot" compliant with Dell Business systems... and said a Dell tech guy would arrive Monday. Of course she could only send one if she filed a refusal to troubleshoot form as it was my responsibility to rebuild my computer over the phone...as I did not agree to do that the issue is my fault...cuz at Dell "the customer is never right". So the guy called this morning, said he'd be here between 10 and 11. Stayed home from work to wait...he calls at noon to say he was at my house and realized Dell did not send the card he needed to replace so he could not come. Well he sure was not at my house when he called cuz there were no cars in the neighborhood- he said he was at a parking lot around the corner... I doubt it as there are none around the corner. Also why would he drive all the way and then figure out Dell had not yet shipped the part. If he was in fact here...why not come in and see if the current card can be fixed???
I give up...I'm still working on my old dog of a laptop- Inspiron 8100...doubting that the new D820 will ever work correctly. I think Dell shipped this new line too soon...and didn't get it right before shipping. I have read many similar complaints- particularly with this card in the D820's...
Oh well thanks for listening to me lamenting....

I've been going nuts all day trying to figure out what's wrong with mine. It can detect my wireless router, but I still can't browse the internet.

Johnny,

Look at your router software to see if there is a newer Firmware version that you can download and install.  Because the 1505 is new, you need the latest firmware on your router.  Try using the Windows utility - not the Dell utility.  If you give more info we can try to help.  What kind of router, are you using security, how do you have it hooked up etc.
