Trouble Downloading files - Broadcom 440x

Hi, I'm having problems downloading files from the Internet using every browser (IE / Firefox). What seems to happen is that the download starts ok and then somewhere between 1mb and 2mb or so the download just pauses and never resumes, or else it loses its way and thinks it has just finished.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400, connected to a DSL modem/router and every other PC on my system does not experience this problem (and I can transfer files fine across my network). I have upgraded all drivers just in case (but this made no difference), rebooted everything, replugged everything and even took the pc apart in case there was a loose connection or something. I am at a loss.

To make matters even more interesting, my PC is dual boot Windows / Linux and when I boot to Linux the same problem sort of happens in that occasionally the download pauses, but then it seems to recover for a while and continues the cycle until the file finally gets downloaded.

Weird..... Any suggestions would be well received.

Thanks in advance.

Well, it looks like it was the built-in network adaptor. I went out and bought a $20 ethernet card this morning, installed it and everything is now running great... Just goes to show sometimes there are hardware failures too :-)
