Trouble with Ethernet Port

Hello all

Thanks for reading my message! I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 and I just got DSl cable this weekend. When In plug the ethernet cable into my computer it says that the network is unplugged. I have tried it with two different cables and it still does not work. I have looked under network adapters and the broadcom is listed with no exclamations. I have used DSl in th past with no problems. When I try to run a test through cmd it says media is disconnested. I know the modem works because it works with my roomates computer

Please help!!

Thanks in advance!!

Okay, first thing, delete the conenction that was made for the DSL line and shut down the PC.  Power down the cable modem and conenct the ethernet cable to the jack on the modem.. Let the connection stabilize (about two minutes) and connect the ethernet cable to the ethernet port on the PC.  Power up the PC and that should do it.

Downloadable to any sor t of media.

Alos check your internet conenctions with the tools menu above and then to Internet Options>Connections Tab (or Internet Options from within the Control Panel) and make sure that old DSL dialup connection is still not in there plus make sure "Never dial a Connection is highlighted".
