Truemobile 1184 web interface

I have a truemobile 1184 wireless router that was working fine. I put it on a shelf for a few months and now I ould like to use it again. I reset it because I could not remember my password and now it will not allow me to set it up via the web interface. The power light and Lan lights are on and I see activity when I try to access 192.168.2.1 but no connection. I have tried it on two computers with same results.

If I go into the wireless control utility I can assign channel and ssid and change password OK. I have it on a Windows 98SE machine. I know the network card and cables are OK as I can communicate OK with my Linksys router on the same system. I seem not to be getting IP from router as confirmed with winipcfg.

Any ideas?

What kind of modem is the 1184 connected to (cable or dsl)?  Is there any wireless security enabled on the router (WEP or WPA encryption)?  Is MAC address filtering enabled on the router?  Have you tried resetting the router to its factory default settings (which would disable any encryption or MAC address filtering) by pressing and holding in the reset button on the back of the router?

Got it fixed. If DHCP gets turned off you can not connect to the router via the Web Interface because your computer has not been assigned an IP address. I had to go into network setup and assign an IP address in the routers range and a gateway. I was then able to connect by the web interface.

Enabled DHCP and fixed network settings and all is well. I am using the router now.

Even the setup wizzard would show I was connected to the internet but still no web interface. This DHCP problem would be impossible for a computer newbee to ever get figured out. I wonder how many get returned for this type of problem. Simply making a mistake in setup and turning off DHCP will kill your routers web interface.

You're right, it could be a real problem.  Fortunately, the default setting in Windows out of the box is to have DHCP enabled.
