Trying to connect in Korea

I'm trying to connect a Dell Inspiron B130 to a DSL modem in Korea with an ethernet cable. I keep getting a yellow question mark and limited/low connectivity error message. The installed network adapter is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller.

It's an exclamation mark on the Local Area Connection icon in the network connections window. When I check the status the error seems to be that the network is not able to assign a network address to the computer. Shows the error after trying to acquire the network address. A second wireless connection has been set up, but I disabled it.

I plugged in my previous laptop bought in the UK and it connected right from the start.

DSL modem, no router involved?

I would try disconnecting the ethernet cable from the pc and diconnect power from the DSL modem for 15 minutes, plug it back in and wait for it to get a connection established, read your modem documentation on how to know this, then plug in the ethernet cable to your PC.

What brand and model number is the modem?

Thanks I'll try that. It's a Korean-made Woojyun Intac-2000 cable modem. I'll try to find a guide for it.

I unplugged the modem and reconnected an half hour later. It did indeed solve the problem. Thanks again.
