Trying to connect laptop with network, help!

Ok we have verizon DSL in our apartment. I have a desktop and since the wireless router is in my room I have my computer directly connected to the router via ethernet cable...no trouble there. But my roommate has a laptop and we cant figure out how to connect her via the wireless router. At home she had verizon DSL and was able to connect to the internet anywhere in her house...so obviously she has a wireless card that works. But we dont know how to connect her in the apartment.
On her computer I went to network connections - view wireless networks and about 10 popped up(other peoples wireless networks in our complex) but how do we know which one is ours...if we even have one? ....In general, how do we connect her laptop to the internet.. =?

check in the router interface with the wired connection.go under wireless and see what the ssid is.if there are that many networks in the building you might want to change the channel in the router while your there.

You can clear some of the confusion by giving your network a unique name. Look for that name when you search for it from the laptop.

You can also check an option to connect to only "Preferred Networks".  Check to make sure yours is secure as possible:
