TV Tuner Knocks Cable Modem Offline

Question

I have a brand new 8400 MCE with dual tuner card. When I connect cable to the tuner card, my cable modem goes offline after about 30 seconds to a minute.   The splitter I'm using is not new -- I previously split the cable and it went to the modem and to the TV. I unhooked the cable from the TV and connected that cable to the computer's tuner card. However, I am not ruling out the splitter as the problem. Is there a specific type of cable splitter I should be using?   Thanks,  -Jack

I would think you'd be better off posting this in the Software-Media Center Edition forum.  However, I would think that it would be better not to split the signal or at least use a amplifier somewhere in the line.

Thanks, I didn't see that forum. I replaced the splitter with a new one and that did the trick.

Hi, If you gonna use an amplifier, I would suggest you one that accepts 'loop back', cause most of the amplifiers are one way, also some filter will be a good idea. Thanks,
