two computer network
I technically have connected two computers with a Linksys router. Both are internet connected. That was easy.
In spite of using the network wizard with Windows XP CD's on the older computer, at shareddocs I get a message which includes
(computer name) is not accessible. You might not have permission.... Contact the administrator... and so on
Next I get
The network path was not found.
I am the administrator and the only user account on both PC's
Does anybody know how to break this log jam?

You also must set up the network with permissions on the other computer and setup sharing on all the individual folders you want to share. You don't say what OS that one has. If it's Vista, you need to change the workgroup name. Vista uses Workgroup and XP uses MSHOME. Change both computers to the same workgroup name but different computer names. Then use the Vista computer to set up the network. The Network & Sharing Center is easier to use than the XP wizard. If both are Xp computers and you have shared Files and Printers, your firewall is probably blocking the network connection.
