Two PC's connected

Its me again.
I have a desktop computer connected useing adsl modem in one room I want
to install a laptop in another room useing seperate modem.
I will not want both PC's on together, is there any reason why I cannot
do this.

You could have separate modems, but only one of them could be on line at any time, both could not.
 
The usual setup is to install a router (or a combo router and hub) and connect both PC's to the router/hub unit and then the router/hub to the dsl modem.  Then both can access the network.  The router/hub can be a wired hub (where each PC has an ethernet cable connected) or it can be a wired/wireless unit where the main PC, where the modem is located is wired to the router and the remote unit uses wireless.

thank you I only want one on line at a time
did not want the hassle of setting up a router.
