UDP Traffic Port 53
Hello everyone. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me with my issue.
Does anyone know the best way or route to close or block port 53 UDP traffic? I have closed this down in my router, in my virus protection, everything I can think of is closed or blocked. However, when I run my test the issue still remains and states that I need to close or block that particular port.
Thank you
Take care

Are you running the test from the actual system or from outside ? Have you closed the port for inbound connections or outbound connections ? Have you closed it also at the windows firewall ? how you know is still open ?

Hello there. Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated. It is for my home business and we are trying to get PCI compliant with a company called Security Metrics. They run the test. I can start a test at anytime from the business and in an hour or so, the test is emailed back to us with a pass or fail. Right now of course it is still failing because of that port. I have had the router port 53 closed, the virus protection closed. I have not closed the windows port as far as I know. I was actually trying to figure out how to do that. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am having a hard time getting the information from the XP disk if that is what I need to do. I found this on the internet. IPSEC. Thought that would do it, but not sure. Thanks again and thanks for the help. Any suggestions would be great. I am new to the port thing.

So then you need to enter a Rule on the Windows Firewall for incomming connections on UDP port 53 as well on the Firewall of the protection program you have ( Norton, Mcafee, etc ) IPSEC for now I believe is not what you're looking for.

Hi,
Thank you very much. I will look into this and see if that helps. Do you have a suggestion as to where to find the best information on how to work on the ports within Windows firewall? Are there any step by step procedures? Thank you for entertaining my lack of knowledge questions.
Take care
