Well I think the winsockxpfix may have done it.  Don't think I'll know for sure until I see how it does for the next few days, but after running it, then rebooting, IE opened without any problems.  Thanks so much!

Steve,
Even though IE won't open, my modem is showing a connection and after IE closes itself I have to disconnect.  I use a dial up connection, I even picked up my phone which shares the same phone line and its nothing but static and beeps.  Thanks for the ideas, I'm in the process of downloading the winsockxpfix right now and will let you know if this works.

How do you know you are connected to the interntet if you can't open Internet Explorer?  What kind of internet connection do you have (cable/dsl/dialup)?  You might try running winsockfix for XP or, if that doesn't work, try lspfix.

Winsockfix

lspfix

I'm just making a wild guess that one of these will help. If they don't, post more information on how you are connected and what happens when you connect.

I know abosultely nothing about hotmail.  Try starting a new thread, since this is a new problem.  You message will be much more likely to be noticed if you start a new thread.

Still able to access IE without difficulty since running the winsockfixp, however I am now not receiving any e-mail in my hotmail account.  Could this be related? Just wondering.  Thanks again for the help. Sara
