Unable to Connect to Wireless Network

A friend's mom recently gave me her old Inspiron 1526, because it was no longer working. After some research I discovered the Motherboard battery needed replacing, which I did. After I got it up and running I couldn't connect to wireless, the connection wasn't even showing up even tho the desktop computer right next to it had no problems. There was, however, a wireless network connection called 'TehTubez', but not in range.

We decided to do a clean install of Windows Vista, thinking that would help. I've done the windows update, checked all the drivers and everything seems to be working fine except the wireless. There in a Broadcom 802.11g adapter in the computer, drivers are up to date and all. It acknowledges our wireless network, but it won't let me connect, even tho the computer is about 15 feet from the router.

I'm not sure what else to do about this, not a newb when it comes to internet or computers but this has me at a loss. I don't have much experience with laptops or Vista. I thought maybe when took apart and put the computer back together that maybe something wasn't connected right, but wouldn't the network adapter not show up as 'working properly' in the device manager if it wasn't connected properly?

Computer is connected via an ethernet cable and works like that, but I want wireless. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Knome65,

Since you did a clean installation, did you install the notebook system utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the notebook system utility and the chipset drivers and install everything in order and things should start working.

The network adapter should have 2 entries--the broadcom ethernet wired connection and a separate wireless card. What wireless card is listed in hardware device manager? You need the driver for that. If no wireless card is listed, it might be missing or failed.
