Do you have a static ip address. The reason I ask is because DHCP is disabled.  Usually DHCP is enabled. To enable dhcp in win xp Go to control panel. Classic view. Network connections. Click on the connection you are using. Go to general tab and check properties.  Double click on tcp/ip, click on obtain an ip address and click on obtain a dns addres. Let me know if this helps.

hi
 thanks for the reply ...i tried but both settings are obtain the ip address automatically and obtain the DNS server automatically...
should i change that radio button to the use the following ip and then give my ip address .
