Unable to go online
Inspiron E1405, Windows XP. I'm trying to connect through a Verizon Wifi modem, which works well with other pcs.
Was not able to connect anymore, so I replaced the mini network card. The problem has not been solved though, I'm not able to go online with the old or new network card.
The icon in the quicklaunch bar, which always used to blink when I was connected, also does not blink anymore.
When I right click on the icon and go to status, it shows that packets are sent , but none received.
Does anyone have an answer to this?

Rick
I'm online again!
I ran winsockxpfix, and that seems to have done the job. No idea what happened...
Thanks for your good work!

zorba199,
Try running an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.
Recently reinstall the operating system?
Router using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11.
Places to look to see if the Connection is enabled
Try running WinSock XP Fix

Hi Rick
thanks for your response. I will try your suggestions in the next few days and post back.
No, I did not reinstall the OS. We have a new Mifi from Verizon the only way to go online out here, wasn't able to connect and started to reconfigure.
How exactly do I run the ipconfig/log?

Toni,
Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type
cmd
hit enter. Type
ipconfig /all (space between the g and /)
Then you'll need to copy and paste the information back here. It's easier to follow the instructions at ipconfig /all It will make it easier to copy and paste or maybe even attach.

Toni,
Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting abck. I'm thinking that what issues you had, the winsock got corrupt. Rinning any peer to peer programs can corrupt the winsock and cause issues.
Take care,
Rick

I had the same problem after installing automatic microsoft updates today. I ran the winsockxpfix as suggested and everything is now working as normal. Thanks for the advice

Saxilbyvasey,
Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back.
I hope this isn't something that's going to be with all XP systems. I usually install WinsockXPFix on all the computers I own. It also works for Vista. It works for Windows 7 but you get an error message. Below is the Microsoft method.
Winsock2 How to determine and to recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, and in Windows Vista
Take care,
