Unable to renew IP address.

My son has a B-130 laptop which is wireless. He is trying to hook-up with a D-Link router. He has an excellent signal strength and it shows connected. When he goes to try and repair it, it comes back with the message that it is unable to renew the IP address. Any ideas? Thanks

Is MAC address filtering enabled on the router?

Steve,

I don't know anything about it and I don't think he does either.

You don't need an install CD.  You can log into the router from a web browser on a computer that is connected to the router by ethernet.   If you go to the D-Link web site, you can probably find a manual for the router and figure it out from there.  Can any other computers connect to the router through wireless?

This belonged to his in-laws and I don't know who set it up. I don't even know if he has the install CD. I'll let him know about the MAC address filtering though. I appreciate your help. I'll post again if he's successful.

No, he's only got the laptop. He had no problem picking up my linksys wireless when he was here so it makes sense that it would be his D-link and not his computer. I'll give him this info in the morning and see what he can do with it.

Is this your own D-Link router or someone else's?  Who set up the router?

if u set it to a static ip in your router and pc you willn't need to renew a ip which is defined by the lease time in your router.... it was annoying to me to have it reconnect every 3600seconds default in my d-link router so i turned to static ip

Did you read the thread?  If fail to see what your suggestion has to do with this problem.
