Unable to setup a wireless profile

Just today, I had to get the motherboard in my Inspiron E1705 (OS = Windows XP sp2) replaced.  One day the machine blue screened and we had not even been able to turn it back on until today.  Before the crash, we would be connected to our wireless network automatically.  Now, I cannot connect on this machine (the other 2 machines in the house connect fine).

When I open the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless window, I see my network, but when I click on it to connect it prompts me to configure my setup.  My original profile appears here, but I cannot remember the password for it.  So I proceeded to try to create a new profile.  I get to the end and get a message: "The wireless settings have been configured for this wireless network.  Click OK to connect to this wireless network."

When I click OK I get an error that says "An internal database error occurred when saving/updating the profile."

Any ideas on how to get past this?

Did you first delete the old profile?  Have you tried using the Windows configuration utility instead of the Intel ProSet utility?  If so, can you get a connection using the Windows utility?  You may have to uninstall the Intel Utility and then reinstall it, to fix the corrupt profile.

yes...when i open the profiles page, there is nothing there.  How do I use the Windows configuration utility.  Also wanted to try uninstalling Intel ProSet but could not find a link where I could download and re-install.  Does anyone have one handy?

To use the Windows utility, open the Intel Proset Utility and uncheck the box to let that utility manage the wireless network.  Then open Network Connections, right click your wireless connection, select Properties, then click on the Wireless Networks tab and check the box to let Windows manage the wireless connection.

You can download the Intel drivers and utility from:
