Unable to update network adapter

Recently, I had to install a new HD in my XPS 200, which runs WinXP.  After installing the OS, I discovered that I could not access the internet.  The device manager shows no driver under network adapters and the ethernet controller is shown as yellow under other devices.  I downloaded and installed the driver and chip sets from my Dell resource CD, but none had any effect on the Device Manager network adapter or ethernet controller status.

I am at wit's end..... can anyone please help me resolve this problem?

When you reinstall win XP there is an order in which to reload your drivers. This order is important to obtain funcionality between you system hardware and the OS

That order is listed HERE

The two most important are the System software(if Listed) and the chipset. These must be installed first as the article points out. I you have already installer other drivers you can try booting into safe mode and install the first two.

You can find your drivers HERE. And yes you have system software driver under the system utilities listing on the driver page
