unstable wireless connection

I have an inspiron 8200. previously i had no trouble with the wireless connection. yet since i moved, i find often that the sever is unavailable, even though the connection is noted as excellent.   Sometimes i just get kicked off.  My roommate also uses the same connection, he has had no problems.  I have tried using a different channel, what do I need to do?

Mine behaves in the same way.  I think one of the last things I did was update my firmware.  Maybe I need to roll it back, but why would they release firmware updates if they are broken?  I manage to connect to my network, but after some time all of the sudden it goes away, even though it says I'm connected.

Another problem I have, is if I disconnect from my network and then shut down my laptop, the next time I boot, it won't automatically connect (which is fine).  Once you try to connect, it will never acquire an IP address.  You can tell it to repair itself, but it will never acquire the IP address.   The sollution is to reboot the laptop.  Geee, thanks Dell.  I think I spent more than $500 on my wireless networking gear from Dell and it works so poorly, I just want to get a 30 foot Ethernet cable and be done with it.
