Updating wireless card driver

I have an Inspiron 8600 about a year and a half old.  It has an Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG Network Card.  I downloaded the latest driver for it and tried to install it but had an error.

Specifically, here is what happens when I run the latest driver download.  I had downloaded it to my Desktop.  When I double-click it, it asks if I want to run the file.  I click ‘Run’.  A window appears identifying the driver and the computers and operating systems it is compatible with.  Mine are on their, so I click ‘Continue’.  I select the folder to unzip it as c:\Dell\Drivers\R107434 and I click ‘ok’.  It unzips the files and says that it was completed successfully.  I click ‘ok’ and then a window comes up that has a heading of “16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem”.  The text in the window reads:

C:\DOCUM~1\Dad\APPLIC~1\SMBIOSSP.exe

C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.  The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.  Choose ‘close’ to terminate the application.

When I click on ‘close’, another window pops up with a heading of “iProInst”.  The text in the window reads:

ERROR – This installer does not support installation on this computer.

Any suggestions as to how to get it to load properly?   I have rolled back to my previous driver for the time being.

Here is the Microsoft article on this issue

It could be caused by a slightly corrupted download, try clear your Internet Explorer cache (Temporary Internet Files folder), redownload the file and try upgrading again.  You may also want to try the generic Intel driver and see if you have the same issue.
http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-010623.htm (Try the driver version 9.0.4.8 - this is the latest)
