can you hit web sites using the IP address?

type is IP adress in to the address bar of the browser 216.109.118.72.

If the Yahoo main page loads then maybe your DHCP is down.

Can you ping outside of your network when logged in as one of the affected users?

I cannot access a site with an url or IP. for the affected user I can ping the DHCP and the DNS server of my ISP but not beyond that. As I mentioned before it is a user speciifc probelem. Another user configured on the same machine and all users on another XP machine on the same network can do evrything on the internet. Its is not a problem with my router or my ISP as I confirmed the problem from my work LAN as well. So it might be a user specific thing that I am not beong able to put my finger on.
Thx

This may help:

Guest accounts cannot connect to internet or cannot initialize a RAS connection [by design]. But Guest account can use an already ON Cable/DSL/LAN connection or already connected Dial-up [from other user account] using Fast user Switching. During Fast user Switching: while the connection is retained for broadband connections, Dial-up connections might terminate while switching users. To prevent that, set the "KeepRasConnections" value to 1 in the Registry.
