Thanks for help.

Everything goes fine exept the final connection. Althought iPaq sees my laptop, it can't connect because it tries first to run "Service discovery", which always fails with message "An error occured while attempting service discovery. Please make sure the remote device is turned on, Bluetooth is enabled and the device is discoverable and try again".

I set my laptop to be discoverable by any bluetooth device so it is really strenge why there is problem with discovering the laptop.

Hi.
If you want just to synchronize with ActiveSync, you don't need the Network .

Just go to (be aware, i use a french XP so name could be little bit different!):
Control Panel
Bluetooth device
COM PORT

Then , add a port com to serial Bluetooth.
Usually 4 or 6.

Then in ActiveSync, set the communication to be able through usb, ir, and OF COURSE
your brand new port!

In the IpAQ, go to add a new device.
Choose activeSync, select your PC, must be in the list now.

And it should work.

Now if you need the network as a REAL network, i did not find yet, advice me if you succeed!

Hope it helps a little.

David.

Yes. In the Connection Settings dialog I have checked all three possibilities (serial cable or IR to port: COM4; USB; network).

Clicking on Get Connected shows the next dialog, which says that there is no possibility to connect to a mobile device.

By the way: should I see something listed in Outgoing connections and Incoming connections in Bluetooth manager on iPaq (tab: Active Connections)?

Mateusz

Hum.

Don't know if the icon tray is not an option somewhere as network icon tray can be.

Did you Set the option in BT manager (PC), Allow other device to detect that pc?
2nd Tab.

Thanks for keeping trying to help... ;-)
Well, that's the point: I can see my laptop on the list, but if I try to tap it, iPaq automatically tries to  discover the laptop and this last part unfortunately fails.

I hope you will overcome your problems. :-)

Best regards,
Mateusz

I'm sorry, i try to remember how i did it.

For me, i set the Client application on a Serial Port com, then this port com in activeSYnc.
Be sure Laptop is bluetooth enable (blue led and icontray blue with white line)

Then on ipaq, add connection, activesync via BT, seek the pc, and should be ok.

When my problem will be solve (i hope to be quickly), i can make step by step with u, even on MSN chat if you need.

Best reagards.

Hi.

In fact, in the Ipaq, you don't have to select discovery !.
You have to go in the Ipaq,
Bluetooth Manager (just click the symbol at the bottom)
New
Connect
Now you should have a list.
Go down until ActiveSync via Bluetooth.Select it.
Next
Next
Next
Next

Now, bluetooth is seeking for device.
Select your PC.

And now, i can't tell you more step by step, because i've got currently a bluetooth problem, that i try to fix it !
But as far i remember is very close to the end.
Msg me if there is a problem.

Regards.

DId you set ActiveSync to synchronize with the new COM port?

Yes, COM4 has been set in Local Services. However in Client Applications I have COM5 (the last) set for Bluetooth Serial Port application.

I reset ActiveSync to use this COM5 port but Get Connected still fails (should I be somehow wired to the laptop? the dialog shows a kind of wired connection with a mobile device...).

OK

I see however one thing that may be incorrect on my laptop: although I do have blue led enabled, I don't see any icon in the tray (despite of the bluetooth network icon - same as for LAN network)...

When you speak about  COM 4 is it in local service tabs?

You must set COM 6, in CUSTOM Application , and set it for Serial Port bluetooth.
By default should be the lastest one.
Then ActiveSync should be also in Com 6

Yes, both laptop and iPaq have this option set (to allow other devices to discover it).

AS promise, and because i hope and expect people to make the same for me a day, i will give you the method i used!

Because YES it works again !!!

French XP so, menu and action name can be different , it's my own translation !
(BT=BlueTooth)
So:
BT Configuration on the PC:
General:
Pc name = MyPC
Kind=Laptop

Access:(2nd Tab)
All devices

Detection:(3rdtab)
Detecting other devices
Every 1 min (I don't like to wait!)
Warn all BT device

Local Service:
If serial com does not exist add it with the button : Add service.
Put Port 4 (can be different ,but in order to follow the rest of explanation better to use the same)

Application:
I've got a Port 6 serial also.

Hardware:
Nothing to do here, just check you UsB device to be detected (mine was not!)

Once that made, go to activeSync.
Put COM4 in the communication setting. (I know, i told you different yesterday, but i made it by memory.

Now, on IpAq.
Of course switch on BT.
The icon appear at the bottom.
Click on it an pick :
BTManager

In the menu, choose :NEW
CONNECT
In the list choose ACTIVESYNC via BT

2 times NEXT.
Click on NONE DEVICE SELECTED
BT is exploring network.

Now your MyPC should be detected.

Double click on it.

Now you should have a box like MyPC.
Create a shortcut for that connexion
Name connexion.
Set the option Create and secured and crypted.

Don't remember when , but
Now, a small yellow popup will appear on your PC close to the tray.
Click on the popup,it will ask for a password.
Type a password.
Type the same password in your Ipaq when it's will ask;
You can ask to remember the password to avoid to identify yourself all the time.
(it's what i did, so it does not show up anymore,it's why i don't remember when it show up).

Now on Ipaq , you should have ActiveSync with MyPC and a subd9 icon.
Click on it.

And now should be connected.

Hope it helps.

David.

Did you see any popup on your pc to warn that something is trying to connect?
Should be around the systray area.

Hi

It is really amazing that you spend so muh time to help me! Thanks.

Unfortunately the scenario ends in my case always in the same moment. I will try to describe one more time all my settings and what do I do:

1. BT config: exactly as you wrote (the only thing is, that I tried to get this COM6 port so currently I have following COM ports available for Bluetooth: COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7); Local: COM4, Client App: COM6

2. ActiveSync (on PC): allow serial/ir for COM4 (as set for Local services)

3. iPaq: bluetooth enabled, BT manager -> New -> ActiveSync ->Step1 -> Step2 -> I can see my laptop on the list -> (after double click) a message box with text "Service discovery: service discovery was unsuccessful" (plus some meaningless details below).

I really do not know what is going on, because the very BT seems to work (when I disabled on PC allowance to discover it, iPaq of course did not see it) - I assume this is OK. However still there are some problems with discovering the PC.

Is there something missing in iPaq settings for BT services? Or maybe on PC? What services should be available on iPaq? (I have File Transfer, Information Exchange, Serial Port, Personal Network Server, Dial-Up Networking Server and Hands Free)

My iPaq is HP h6300 (in case it matters).

Thanks again very much for your efforts.

Regards,
Mateusz
