Using Dell laptop as an access point

Hi, I currently have a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop and access the internet through a wireless 3G network connection from Sprint that I pay monthly.  I am wondering if there is any way that I can use this type of connection to use my laptop as an access point for other wireless capable devices such as the PS3, etc. This computer uses Windows Vista.  I've attempted to create wireless networks to connect to my PS3 wirelessly, with no success.  Is this even possible with a wireless 3G connection that I access from Sprint, or would I need an LAN wired connection for my laptop?  I'd appreciate any assistance anyone can offer.  Thanks in advance.
