You need to say what operating system you have. Vista Home and Basic do not have fax capability, but I've read that Windows 7 does include it in the Home version. If you have vista home you need a 3rd party utility. You are aware that you must hook up the fax modem to your telephone jack and it will use your plain old analog telephone for faxing, I hope. You cannot have a digital phone if you want to fax with your computer modem. Telephone Fax is pretty much out of favor now that you can use email and online fax services.
I can suggest a program for you to use. It will install on your computer since you have a dialup modem and then I can help you after that. My computer does NOT have a dialup modem, but I use my stand alone printer for my very little faxing that I do. I try to email everything as much as posssible.

I am using Vista. I'm not aware of on-line fax services. I need to learn more.
