Viewing videos on YouTube

Hi everyone, I'm not sure if I have this question in the right place, but here it goes...
I have a brand new Dell system/Windows XP Media Edition.  I am unable to view any of the videos on the YouTube site.  It gives me a message that says:  You either don't have Java enabled (which I do) or you don't have the latest flash player installed (which I do).  Anyway, it is very frustrating having all new equipment and new high speed internet and not be able to watch a single video that I would like to watch.  I tried to get help from YouTube, but they would only give me a 'form letter' type of help.  Any suggestions?

Anjobar,

Go to www.sun.com and download the latest version of Java.  If some java files on your system have been changed or modified in any way by another application, you can be sure that you have the latest version by downloading it.  Also, go to www.macromedia.com (now ( www.adobe.com) and download the latest flash and shockwave players.  You have nothing to lose by downloading these free program updates and they may very well resolve your issue.

Thanks for your help, Steve.  I did both and unfortunately I am still getting the same message from YouTube and am unable to view any videos.  Could it have anything to do with my firewall?

you aren't prompted to download the flash plugin again??? it has happened to me some sites ask for the plugin to be installed even though i already have it... and yes if your firewall is blocking java then that mght be a problem... also might be worth trying another broswer sww if that works

Anjobar,

It is possible that your firewall or internet security suite software could be causing this problem.  Enable the Windows firewall and then disable your firewall and internet security software as a test of this possibility.  Please post here with the exact message that you receive when you have this problem.

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Click here to get the latest flash player.

This is the message I get.  I turned off my Windows firewall and installed it again.  I am still getting the same message.

Glad to know that I am not the only one.  Strange thing is, Java works with other stuff on my computer and so does Flash, just not on You Tube.  I can even watch You Tube videos that people have put on other sites.  I still can't watch a single video on that site...driving me crazy.

I am having this same problem!  Is there anyone at Dell working on this?

I have found the cure! I called Dell and the guy had me change  several things on my laptop-did nothing-One night in frustration I was looking at Adobe  help sight and it said to completely remove flash  using their removal tool and re-install-which I did and it now works like a charm-I had tried EVERYTHING but this fixed it-Even though my laptop is new apparently sometimes there's a conflict that they have had problems with. Hope this helps! ( You have to use THEIR removal link to do it properly.)
