May be there is some setting on Vista OS to fulfill these features.. XP Drivers still work with vista. May be thats the only workaround is to use those settings.
I just found this on google.. IF you are good with registry keys, go into Registry Editor using Regedit command from Run Dialog box and follow the steps below;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\#number#\lom = 0 or 1
Check what the default value was. Try between 0 and 1.
I have been having the same problem and it's been driving me nuts! When I first had Vista installed, I used to have the "disable upon wired connect" option available when I would go to the advanced properties of the Dell Wireless 1500 card. Recently I did a clean re-install of Vista, and I downloaded all the latest drivers from Dell's site. Now I am missing that option, so when I connect my laptop to my home network with CAT-5, I also stay connected wirelessly to my network.
Has this been caused by a new driver? I am going to try and load XP drivers and see if that works better for me. Hopefully I can get this resolved soon.
If you have reinstalled the OS did you also reinstall the QuickSet utility? This utility is what manages the various Power Management options. Here's the
link if you'd like to install it.
When I re-installed Vista, I made sure that all the Dell Utilities were installed also. The Notebook System drivers and the Quickset utility are both installed. When I used to have XP, the Quickset utility included an option to disable the wireless radio when you connected with a CAT-5 cable, but the Vista version of Quickset does not have that option. It only gives you the option to turn the WiFi and Bluetooth radios on and off manually. I did find a solution to my problem, and that was downloading and installing the XP version of the driver. Once I did that, I was able to enable the "Disable upon wired connect" option.
