WAN connection icon 'x'-ed out...

Does anyone know what would cause my wireless connection icon in the taskbar to be 'x'-ed out (as if unavailable), while the reverse is actually true? I am currently posting this and surfing the net. When I move the mouse pointer over the icon, no descriptive text displays. However, I can still right click on it and open the status window which shows everything is working ok; packets are being sent and received.

Any ideas?
