Weak Signal
Is there anything I can do to strengthen the reception of my wireless signal?
I'm running the standard card that comes with the 1150 (I don't know what it's called), and while in the student union my signal is perfect, inside my classroom and in the library my connection is weak and frequently non-existant. It pops in and out, and wastes my battery as it tries to connect and re-connect.
I've had no problems with my home network, no problems with the wireless access in one building on my campus, but the other two I get weak signals. I know others have had better luck with the connection in those two buildings, and since I don't know where the WAP is physically located, I can't make an attempt to get closer, likewise other students' cellphones and other radio interference I can't really do anything about.
All the solutions I can find resort to reducing interference; getting closer to the WAP;and adjusting physical settings on the WAP itself. However, since the network is not owned by me, I don't have that option.
I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to my laptop itself to strengthen it's reception (like getting a better antenna would do for a cell-phone), but I have to try, as it's quite an annoyance to hike to the other end of campus so I can spend 5 minutes e-mailing my professor only to hike back to get to my class.
