WEP help

I'm trying to enable WEP only that my computer has a 40 (or a number in the 40's) bit WEP.  I called DELL and they gave me an address that doesn't work.  How do I upgrade to a 64 bit WEP so I can have higher security.  Please Help me!!

It's the same.

It maybe possible to get a firmware upgrade that bumps you to 128, but the 64 number is just another way of representing the same thing.

Also, while 128 is nice, it's not that secure (if you truely need security).  Any form of WEP will keep most people out.  Even the best WEP won't keep a determined person out.

if there's a problem, it's not because the bits are different ... as I've already told you, they are the same (it's just the wording that's different).

make sure you are using the same key type: hex for instance

ok, thanks.  but i still can't enable WEP because the bits are different.  my computer gets disconnected from my router everytime I change the security.  so how can I connect to the internet and also have WEP security??

Ok, follow my directions in the other post for making up a HEX key - 26 for 128bit and 13 for 64bit.

Do not use the passphrase method as different manufacturers and Windows use different ways of generating the keys from the phrase.  And yes, they have to be exact, thus the security.  Use the right number of HEX digits (26 for a 128bit key).  0-9 and A-F in a very random manner.

Then put ten in both devices - make them identical.

u can also add MAC filtering to help security, this blocks out other network cards.
