What is my network adaptor ?

I'm trying to upgrade from Win 2000 to Win XP.  In the middle of the installation the laptop gets into a loop because it crashes when it cannot find the network driver.  So I need to manually insert the driver onto the hard drive.  I have the drivers CD which came with the laptop...but this has lots of different drivers on it. How do I find out what network adaptor I have on my laptop & hence which driver to use ?

From the Dell website I can only see how to discover how to interrogate the specification of my laptop if I am connected to the website using the laptop...but I don't have a working laptop/operating system right now, so this isn't much use.

Any suggestions, anyone ?

ec96,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

The integrated nic on the system is a 3Com 3C920 card.  You may also have found this by performing a hardware scan on the system.  You can use the one on the Dell web site.

  1. Start from the main support site.
  2. Click on the Services & Warranties link.
  3. Select the Current System Configuration tab.
  4. Accept the agreement.
