What network is Team_C ?

This wireless issue is puzzling me.

I am trying to place my brand new E1505 with Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 on my existing wireless home network with another laptop currently connecting wirelessly with D-Link router, D-I524. My network has been proven to be an excellent running network, for more than a year now.

I entered all security settings: network ID, network key, etc... in the E1505 because it's a security enabled network. (I have done this many times with other computers). When I attempted to connect to my network, the green Intel wireless icon indicated excellent wireless connection, but the Internet pages were blank. Nothing is coming through the pipe, I would say...

I have tried to switch back and forth from channel 6 to channel 11, from WEP to WPA-TKIP but I got no results. Something tells me I have authentication issues. Again I tried to set it up the same way as I had always done so with other computers and I had no problem.

Here is something interesting. I found a network named TEAM_C in the list of networks found. First I thought it must be a network that factory created for testing purposes and it should be NOT be working now, but I tried to to connect it anyway. Guess what ? It works. I don't know what network TEAM_C is or who it belongs to, but I was able to connect to it, just like I would have liked to connect to my own network, and I didn't even have to enter any information for it.

TEAM_C can not be my neighbor's because my other wireless client, my other laptop, doesn't see it. I suspect TEAM_C is actually my network but for some reason the E1505 sees it as some other name. And why didn't I have to enter security infos ? My router is serurity enabled.

I know there is an easy way to find out if TEAM_C is my home network. Just unplug the router and cable modem and I will find out. I will do just that when I get home tonight. But if it's my network, then why does the E1505 sees it as something else ? and why does my router give the E1505 FREE access ?

Thank you for any inputs..

presumably it is a neighbors connection and your other machines just aren't seeing it.

do you have mac filtering enabled on your router?

As to why the other machines might not see the network:

They may have cards with weaker receivers than the Intel 3945 (which has a very good RF frontend in my opinion).
They may be 802.11b-only and Team_C is 802.11g or 802.11a
They may be 802.11b/g-only and Team_C is an 802.11a network
