How is your machine connected to the internet?  Cable-DSL?  Any router involved?

There is a lot of information you are not providing such as

  • has it ever worked
  • if so, what chnages were made since the time it worked and now, such as a reinstall of the OS
  • what does the Device Manager say about the status of the NIC card

Some of this would be helpful.

DSL or cable?  Is there anohter machine at this location that does work?  Is this a wired or wireless connection you are trying to make?

Can you take the laptop to another location and does it work there?  Please provide some details other than "it does not work".

It is cable internet. Other computers at this location work fine. Mine does not anywhere i go. What happends is when i go to a site, some of the options i can click on do not show up. Also, everything is white, there are no backgrounds, some sites make the font larger then it should be. Its hard to explain, but i think it must be my settings. I dont know what else it could be

You are getting realo close to a reinstall.  Sometimes it is just easier to reinstall the stupid thing rather than chasing your tail, so to speak.  what happens if you use Internet Explorer?
