Wi Fi - D810 - Problem with wireless network connection - Please help

I am having huge problems connecting to my D Link wireless access point. The difficulty is that whilst Windows and the Intel Pro Wireless software tell me that I am connected to WEP enabled network (and that I have an excellent connection) , I am clearly not connected because I cannot access any files on my network's server, and I also can't access the router which is on the same network. I have tried everything. I have changed the wirless  Access point (twice), I have downloaded and installed the updated driver for the Intel Pro Wireless network card, and today Dell in fact swapped the card itself for a new one. When I click on properties on the network connection I see that just a few packets are being sent from my laptop and then that stops, and  no packets whatoever are being received. When I try and ping the wirless access point , or any other workstation on my small network, it does not ping - it just says hardware error.  The wierd thing is that this wirless connection was working brilliantly until about a week ago, when I ran into all this trouble for no apparrent reason. I have tried de-activating my Windows firewalls, and my Norton Internet Security firewalls etc, all to no avail.   I am running Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware SE, and another spyware programme but i do not see these interfering this this. As soon as I dock the laptop, I can connect without any problem through the Ethernet cable connection.   The only possible thing left for me to do, as I see is to format my hard drive, and reinstall XP, which for obvious reasons I do not want to do - but I think there might be some type of software corruption which is causing my woes. Does anyone have any suggestion for me to try before I take this drastic step, and any comments on whether this will help?   Thanks   Harry Message Edited by Noch on 08-22-2005 06:42 PM

Check the power settings for the wireless NIC while undocked.  It sounds like it has been set to turn off the card while on battery power.

Nhe power setting on battery are not configured to turn off the NIC, and in any event I experience the exact same problem when I plug in the power chord.
