ok, here's what is "unchecked" on Selective Startup:

DellHelp
DSAgnt
DVDLauncher
ehtray
GoogleDesktop
issch
iTunesHelper
netWaiting
msmsgs
qttask
Adobe Reader Speed Launch
DataViz Inc Messenger
Dell Network Assistant
ymetray

in case it comes up, here's what is checked:
ZCfgSvc
ifrmewrk
SynTPEnh
stsystra
ISUSPM
tfswctrl
cli
pccguide
ctfmon
Digital Line Detect
HOTSYNCSHORTCUTNAME

the wireless is handled by the basic XP WiFi Network Connection thing - when i first got the computer it was using the Intel PROSet/Wireless, but i changed it back to windows, it was just easier for me. However - of note is that the wifi was working FINE with autoconnect after i changed that, so it wasn't that change that made it stop working.

thanks.

Make sure the Windows Wireless Zero configuration is set to start automatically.  Go to Start > Run and type services.msc. Find the Wireless Zero Configuration, double click it and make sure it is started and set ot start automatically.
