I installed the software and drivers in the exact order as mentioned, but yeah..still no difference.
I can see all available wifi networks but entering the network key does not connect it to the network.
As a test, i tried connecting to my iphone after setting it as an access point. but same thing. i could see my iphone's in the list of available network but couldnt connect after entering wifi password.
Please let us know which firewall and antivirus is installed on the system. Also, if possible kindly try to connect the laptop to a different router to check if the issue is limited to this router only.
Also, you can try disabling the security on router for diagnosing and then try to connect the system and let us know about the outcome.

Hi Sandeep,
Thanks for the Reply.
yes i have been to that link you sent and have tried solutions mentioned their, but no luck.
My Wireless LAN Adapter is Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN
The drivers for this should be latest as i have performed this:
Uninstalled the driver from DeviceManager, Restarted laptop. downloaded latest driver for vista-64 from dell website. and installed it.
I can connect to the router though Ethernet if this information helps in anyway.
Thanks Again.
Regards

Avi Mel,
From Intel's website...
Intel® Centrino® Wi-Fi Products — Which operating systems are supported with Intel wireless products?
The Intel® WiFi Link 5100 adapter is no longer suported with Windows 8.

Avi Mel,
I scrolled to the top and say you said...
My dell studio 1555 was running windows 8 perfectly.
I missed the part that you installed Vista 64-bit.
Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.
