WiFi virgin
Use an Inspiron 600m and was considering getting a transmitter in my small home, so I can leave my office and work on the internet in any room. I've used my WiFi at airports but am limited to knowledge of such, wondering if it's worth it, if it's complicated to set up, and if it's affordable. Any comments appreciated.

broadband or dialup? if broadband, does your current modem connect through ethernet or through USB?
if broadband through ethernet, then it will be both simple and cheap to setup

basic info:
what u need: isp subscription (high-speed internet), wireless router (preferrably from dell), wifi system (like your 600m with a wireless card - you were able to use wifi before so your system must have a wireless card).
you would just have to get isp subscription and a wireless router. after that everything will fall into place.

Jmak, as basic requirements I would say the wireless router you buy needs to support 802.11g. I would also say to get one that supports WPA2 encryption, though your clients wireless cards will need to support it to use it. as your client card is unlikely to support it, I wouldn't buy a 'special' router that claims faster (108mbps) speeds or *claims* to be 802.11n compliant.
If you do know you way around things and want a lot of functionality for the price, I would buy a unit that supports some really decent third party firmware called dd-wrt (you can google that). One wireless router you can buy for this is a buffalo WHR-HP-G54 (around $65 shipped online).
