Will Dial-Up work?

Hi, I just ordered a Dell XPS 410 system and I wondering if a dial-up connection from AOL would work. I am wondering because earlier this year I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1501 and the dial-up connection would keep disconnecting, so I returned it. Anyways, thanks in advance!

AOL is flakey and known to cause random disconnects.  Get a "real" ISP.

Imasmartguy1,

As Firberd noted, AOL can be a bit "flakey".  Use only the AOL VR (Vista Ready) version with Vista.  Other versions cause nightmares such as you experienced with the Inspiron.

I doubt that the problem you had with the Dell inspiron 1501 had to do with AOL.  A lot of us are having the same problem, and I have Juno.  If you find a solution, let us know on the forum, since we can't get answers anywhere else, it seems...

Ladyofgrammar,

The "flakey" problem that myself and Fireberd noted is not confined just to AOL.  I have had similar problems with disconnects using PeoplePC's installation disks.  Fortunately, a dial-up connection for PeoplePC can be configured using Windows New Connection Wizard.  Worked flawlessly that way.  I suspect the problem with AOL dialup is caused by the security enhancements.  I have had some customers that I had to "downgrade" to AOL Version 8 to get a stable connection.
