Window Firewall, is it necessary ?

Well, I'm currently sharing a DSL line between my desktop and laptop, one have service pack 1 and the other pack 2. Well some of my friends told me that I should try to enable the window firewall inorder to protect both of my pc from hacker, but honestly, is it that necessary to use the firewall that window came with ? The reason why I'm asking this is because I remember reading some post in this forum long ago that the firewall that window came with doesn't help you at all, but it also slow down ur connection as well -_-

What iam mean to say is that by default you will get filre wall options in antivirus also so you can enable that and disable in the winxp sp 2 fire wall disable because iam conroling antivirus firewall because two firewall enable will make the system slow and mess up the system

If you have a product such as Norton Security Suite or the one from Mcaffee, they both have built in firewalls.  You do not want to run that firewall in conjunction with the Windows firewall, so decide whihc one you want to use and disable the other.  If you feel comfortable configuring the non XP firewall for networking, then disbale the Windows firewall.

Two firewalls can and will cause trouble for you.
