Windows 98SE to XP network configuration

My Win 98 233 Mhz PC did not take well to a new PCI ethernet card due to IRQ conflicts.  I have a fairly stable PC with additional USB PCI card and was wondering if it is worth getting a USB adaptor (wireless or not?) as an alternative to using the PCI card.  I was going to hard wire in the WIn 98 PC to the highspeed modem and then route to a router for wireless connection for my in-home LAN but I can't seem to get the WIN 98 PC to cooperate.  Any suggestions?

did you try installing the pci card in another pci slot?
what is the present hardware irq configuration?

There is no other slot available.  Not sure what you mean by requesting irq config.  With the router card installled the IRQ assignments were fine from 1 through 15 except for 9 where the ethernet card and the printer shared the same address.  Because of that I could not print while connected because the entire system would crash.  I believe there was one other assignment to 9 but forget what it was.

Not meaning to be pedantic but your printer is usually on IRQ 7.

I was asking for your IRQ configuration as it may be possible to disable something such as an unused serial port in order to free up on IRQ which could then be used by your network card.
