Windows Explorer error

Every time I try to access my Network or open the Help and Support function I get an error saying that Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. My computer in general seems to be working fine except, I can't seem to get my Firefox browser to access the web but IE 7 seems to be working spotlessly. where should I begin?

The Explorer program is a basic part of Windows XP.  If you are experiencing problems with that, you will need to fix the Windows XP Operating System.

If you run sfc /scannow (space between c and /) at the Start/Run command with your Windows XP CD loaded it may find a bad file and fix it.  If that doesn't work you will have to boot with your Windows XP CD and run "Repair" and finally if that doesn't work you are most likely looking at a complete reinstall.

If you have a recent PC, it has a restore function of CTRL/F11 at boot up to restore it to the original power up condition.

BTW, this is not a "networking" issue, but a Windows XP software issue.
